Notice of NPA General Meeting - June 29th, 2010

Hi All,

At our Annual General Meeting in April, a member proposed that we consider alternative names for the Non-Partisan Association.  After asking your opinion on whether or not we should consider changing the name of the NPA, and to what we should potentially change it to, it is now time for a vote.

On June 29th, 2010, members of the NPA are invited to join us at the Vancouver Museum to cast their official vote on whether or not we should change the NPA name. See below for the official notice that was sent to members.

              Notice of General Meeting
               Vancouver Non-Partisan Association
 
 
 
When: Tuesday, 29 June 2010, registration at 6, PM, meeting start 6:30
Where: Vancouver Museum, 1100 Chestnut Street, Vancouver, BC
 
The Vancouver Non-Partisan Association (NPA) will hold a General Meeting as required by s. 49 of the NPA bylaws (ALTERATION OF BY-LAWS). As an NPA member, you are entitled to receive 21 days notice that the NPA will hold this General Meeting, as required by s. 49(a) of the NPA’s bylaws. This document is that notice.
 
Purpose of the General Meeting:
 
At this meeting, members of the NPA will consider the following special resolution:
 
Whereas: the Board of Directors of the NPA was directed at the 28 April, 2010 AGM to constitute a Special Review Committee to review the name of the Non Partisan Association and recommend the present name, as well as additional appropriate alternative names for consideration by the membership which will help to position the NPA as a group of forward-looking people working toward a better Vancouver, the final choice of name shall be determined by the membership at a General Meeting to be held on or before 30 June, 2010;
 
and
 
Whereas: the Board of Directors appointed a Special Name Change Review Committee, which in turn sought input from members of the NPA for new names which may better reflect its core values to the Vancouver public and, has given due consideration to this information as well as other relevant considerations; the Special Review Committee submitted the Name Change Recommendations Report to the Board of Directors and then to the NPA membership along with the Notice of the 29 June, 2010 General Meeting for their review & consideration.
 
Be it resolved that Article 1 of the Constitution of the Society known as the “CIVIC NON PARTISAN ASSOCIATION” be deleted and replaced with:
 
1. The name of the Society is “VANCOUVER FIRST”.
 
 
 
PURSUSANT TO THE BYLAWS A SPECIAL MOTION REQUIRES 75% APPROVAL OF THOSE MEMBERS PRESENT BEFORE THE BYLAW CAN BE ALTERED.

Eligibility to Vote
You must meet both the following criteria to vote at the General Meeting:
  • be a member in good standing of the NPA at the General Meeting; and
  • you must have been an NPA member for at least 30 continuous days before the General Meeting. Therefore, you cannot vote at the General Meeting if you have not been a continuous member of the NPA from 29 May 2010 until the General Meeting.
