NPA Vancouver announces Christopher Richardson and Oliver Hanson as NPA candidates for School Board
August 16, 2018, Vancouver, B.C. – NPA Vancouver announced today that Christopher Richardson and Oliver Hanson will run as NPA candidates for School Board in the upcoming October 20th municipal election. They join NPA incumbent School Trustee Fraser Ballantyne, who was previously announced as an NPA candidate, along with NPA mayoral candidate Ken Sim and the NPA candidates for City Council and Park Board.
Richardson, a Chartered Professional Accountant, is well-known for his lifetime of volunteerism and commitment to Vancouver. He is a former Chair of the Vancouver School Board and also served for three terms as a Vancouver Park Board Commissioner. He is the recipient of a Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal (2012) and works periodically as a Special Municipal Constable with the Vancouver Police Department.
“My personal, volunteer, and professional background have prepared me to advocate for all of the diverse learners served by the Vancouver School Board, especially those who would otherwise struggle,” said Richardson. “Our community’s success requires us to be creative, seek new solutions, and work with the many partners, especially the provincial Ministry of Education, that contribute in their unique ways to the exciting yet diverse and complex learning opportunities in Vancouver.”
Newcomer Oliver Hanson is a lawyer and a resident of East Vancouver, where he and his wife, Laura, are raising their young family. As the father of three young children, Oliver is personally invested in the quality of public education and the safety and security of all students across the Vancouver school district.
“Raising a family in Vancouver can be challenging for many young families, but our children’s education should not be one of those challenges,” said Hanson. “A new, fresh voice is needed on the Vancouver School Board to ensure the future success and development of our children – one that can be a strong advocate for families. As an experienced lawyer and business owner, I have the knowledge and expertise to be that strong, reasoned voice, as well as the experience to work effectively with the board and the Province.”
The NPA recently announced its slate of candidates for City Council and Park Board along with incumbent NPA School Trustee Fraser Ballantyne. Current NPA School Trustee Lisa Dominato is seeking a seat on Vancouver City Council as an NPA candidate in the upcoming municipal election. On June 3, 2018, NPA Vancouver members voted to nominate Ken Sim as the NPA’s 2018 mayoral candidate.
